Autonomous indoor navigation robot
A ROS2 mobile robot that maps indoor spaces and navigates between goals on its own.
Development stage
Stage 6 of 8: testing.
- Problem identification

Problem
Indoor delivery and guidance tasks need robots that can build a map, localise reliably and avoid people and obstacles in spaces that keep changing.
Solution
A differential-drive platform running LiDAR SLAM for mapping and a ROS2 navigation stack for localisation, planning and dynamic obstacle avoidance.
Technology
- ROS2
- SLAM
- Path planning
- Sensor fusion
Hardware
- 2D LiDAR
- IMU
- Wheel encoders
- Single-board computer
- Motor controller
Software
- ROS2
- SLAM toolbox
- Navigation stack
- Robot simulation
- Python and C++
Target outcomes
- Repeatable autonomous navigation between waypoints
- A map-once, navigate-many workflow
- A platform reusable for teaching and research
